It’s a stupid tradition that should end, though, especially because of genuinely heinous ex-presidents like him and Dubya who have committed numerous crimes against humanity and thus don’t deserve to be honored in any way.

Technically speaking, it’s customary to continue to call all former presidents President, but it seems they take it to the next level.

Well, the first part is semi traditional. Ex presidents being called president is fairly common.
The second part is because assholes.
