I figure that, plus the nerve that tickles your cough bone is dulled. I sing and have had too many surgeries so I have some experience with dilaudid. My vibrato is in my diaphragm and it isn’t as responsive when I’m on dilaudid, but that could just be the drug slowing my responsiveness in general.
It’s put in there for a few different uses. It’s a very small amount and it’s synergistic with the morphine and actually reduces respiratory depression. I have been also told it was put in there to prevent abuse, because if you take too much nausea starts happening.
It’s funny, but what’s also funny is that it’s still true of benadryl. Relatively safe when used as directed but, well, check out the chubbyemu video on it for more details.
Alcohol is one of the most destructive things for your body. If you had the choice of taking morphine or Alcohol everyday for the rest of your life, you would live much longer on average with the morphine.

Shouldn’t it be “You can’t cough if you’re unconscious”?
…you’ve sneezed while unconscious???
Well, I wouldn’t know
I do, you haven’t, so far
Not consciously, I assume.
As an anaesthetist, I can tell you that you can cough under anaesthesia, but I’ve never seen anyone sneeze under anaesthesia.
Skillfully combined with a number of other ingredients
i wonder how they decided to also add a bit of chloroform for good measure
It reduces respiratory depression caused by the morphine.
This explains the mechanism

I am amazed at the spectrum of specific knowledge that is already on lemmy.
Actually, morphine is excellent at stopping coughing. Probably not wise, but efficient
Isn’t that just because it suppresses breathing in general?

Doesn’t chloroform burn like hell? Surely it’s insta-puke?
Can’t cough if you’re vomiting

If it works I’d try it.

Thank god it’s only 1% alcohol. Wouldn’t want to put anything harmful in my body
Opiates are actually very well tolerated, so alcohol is probably one of the more damaging ingredients - can’t say anything about chloroform though
