You can view these links by clicking on the said rules. - A majority of this community's rules are now also applied in; [[email protected]](https://lemmy.world/c/reddit), [email protected], [email protected] That was about it for the last week. We'd also like to announce that we're moving our moderation bot from Matrix to Discord, and this will allow us to moderate by using action buttons there. ______ What change would you like to see in this community? Let's keep working together to help make this an amazing space! ______ Matrix Chat Room - To find & join our chat room for casual discussion and support, log into a matrix client and put `#nostupidquestions:matrix.org` on the search bar. Let’s help our community grow & boost activity! [META]
Let's boost activity by creating new posts & commenting on others! Creating new posts is more important right now. We can still go back to being lurkers **after** we're all settled on the platform. You're also encouraged to recommend this community to our friends around the Fediverse :) we can't do this without your help. You may use this post for community requests, advice and/or just to deliver good wishes. Also, see Rule 6.

Our Whitelist for Bots [META] [Locked Post]
lock
Here is a list of bots that are allowed (to comment) in this community. Bots aren't allowed to create posts. If you do not see your bot in this list and it's not a new one, then that means we consider it to be malicious and don't want it here. To have your **helpful** bot included in this list, please contact our moderators for a review. __________________ The Whitelist - __________________ :::spoiler 1- AutoMod Beta (https://lemmy.world/u/automodbeta) This is our moderation bot, in beta. It works by transcripting and linking all of the content into a dedicated matrix chatroom(used as a log). This allows moderators to just take a look at the log to make sure everything is okay, rather than scrolling through posts one by one. It also redirects all reports to a seperate chatroom, which is normally used by our moderators to chat and work together. Moderators can also make the bot send transcripts of comment chains on command, so they can discuss what to do about it together. Credit goes to [@[email protected]](https://lemmy.world/u/Rooki) _____________ ::: _____________ :::spoiler 2- Community Link Fixer Bot (https://lemmings.world/u/CommunityLinkFixer) This is the community link fixer bot. It works by fixing the broken links in comment sections. Since most users are just getting started here, we found this bot to be useful and decided to allow it. The credit goes to [@[email protected]](https://lemmings.world/u/rikudou) _____________ ::: _____________

New moderator needed! [META]

One new moderator will be added to the team. Please keep in mind that this team moderates several communities together, and so we would need a little bit more of your time than the average Lemmy community. Volunteers are welcome to message me or comment on this post with your time zone & availability. Cheers! :)

Weekly Letter to Members & Community Feedback [META] (Week 2)
Hello everyone! Thank you for being here, and thanks to every one of our members for supporting us. It's only been 22 days since this community started, and we never stopped gaining momentum ever since! The friendly and sincere atmosphere you've all managed to create so quickly here, that's what originally made the internet a great place. You've all visited us from many different corners of the internet, and we've always stayed willing to put in time and effort as required. You swayed toxicity away and established attitudes & we put it into writing to define our rules and approach. We love working with you, as we should :) I hope you feel welcome here. This week, we didn't change a lot of things. We had to replace two inactive moderators and add [@Rooki ](https://lemmy.world/u/Rooki) & [@Thekingoflorda](https://lemmy.world/u/Thekingoflorda) to our team. They've been absolutely amazing and Rooki might just come with a gift for us soon ;) We also added a new rule: >**9**-Reposts from other platforms are not allowed. The previous Rule 9 is now number 10, so number 10 is not a new rule haha. That about sums up the past week. Oh, and we also banned two(3?) trolls. You can see them along with their deleted content on our mod log. What change would you like to see in this community? Are you happy with the rules & management? Please feel free to let us know any suggestions & questions you may have in the comments. Matrix Chat Room - To find & join our chat room for casual discussion and support, log into a matrix client and put `#nostupidquestions:matrix.org` on the search bar.

Why do people prefer cars over public transport?
I'm 25 and I don't have a drivers license. I mean, I've never really felt the need to go and get one. Public transport is usually the fastest option where I live, and it takes a lot less responsibility to use it. But most people would still prefer driving, rather than using the public T. Why?

Should I use Matrix for Messaging?
I use an iPhone and my fiancé uses Android. He is not very tech savvy. He does not like to text for privacy reasons. I was going to recommend we get Signal but see others in Lemmy talking about Matrix. Is that better? If so, what app is best that works on both our phones? Thanks Lemmy friends!

Why do people keep voting for authoritarian leaders?
I'm just trying to understand. Erdogan in Turkey, Putin in Russia, Orban in Hungary etc... Why do these leaders still get so much support after all they've done? What do they exactly like about them? Aren't these people seeing a massive drop in their quality of life?

Letter of Appreciation to Lemmy Moderators [META]
Hello everyone. Let's take a second to appreciate some unseen workers here, huh? Even though we're all newbies as we are, most of the Fediverse has solidarity here, including Lemmy and kBin. And a crushing majority is set to never tolerate toxicity. Same with anything without transparency. You made this happen, we did, all our admins did, together. And hopefully it will become the norm and the culture. We've all seen how much time some people dedicated here, to make actual communities happen, and to keep them safe from bad actors. Thank you to all the admins, to our breathtaking moderators at c/nostupidquestions, thank you to every community that partnered with one another, and thank you to everyone who supported them! Remember: don't let the stress get to you. You can always consolidate ideas with one another or with us, and make it a friendly experience rather than a stressful one. Keep your IRL habits healthy, and **never** place this over your mental health. You come first, and your job and friends come first. And I hope you take care. Cheers. ;)

Resurrecting High Weirdness on the Web? (StumbleUpon clones?)
I asked a related question here - the one about Boing Boing, Disinfo.com, Dangerous Minds: https://lemmy.world/post/1001839 I'd say somewhere around the late 00's, things like iPhone, FB, Twitter, etc...started to make the web a lot more....homogenized. It was fine for the old hands - we've seen this kind of thing before and more corporate rule was all too expected. We've been through a few migrations and paradigm shifts already. But we could still use our skills, go to the sites we wanted, curate RSS feeds, find the weird bits of the 'net that were still worthwhile tuning into and keeping the polished stuff at arms length. But then things like StumbleUpon went away and for more and more people totally new to technology (but born into it) they think social media == "the internet" (Which is a depressing notion, having your entire idea of "technology" being something like BigCompany's tablet/phone connected to BigCompany's data gathering site to mediate your entire online experience.) Blogging became "uncool". And of course, very few people, most especially younger people, seem to know about things like RSS. I used to use StumbleUpon and then it dried up; has anyone used Mix? Or is there something better to use for discovering the weird and the wonderful? How do you find the weird corners of the net these days? Where have all "The Others" gone to?

I am still learning this whole thing and I ended up creating accounts here and on Mastodon. Is that necessary or do I automatically have a Mastodon username with my Lemmy? Weekly Report(new stuff!) & Letter to Members [META] (Week 3)
Hello everyone! To start out, I'd once again like to say thank you to every single one of you for being here. We're building something awesome here together, and I'm grateful you've been with us so far. Let's go over the changes we made this past week, and tell you about our fresh moderation bot to clear any concerns you may have. ____ Changes in the Sidebar - You might have noticed that we made some changes in the sidebar; specifically to our list of rules. The formatting has completely changed to adopt spoilers for rules, which now allows you to expand rules on click, instead of seeing an unkept wall of text in our sidebar. This means that we now also have a lot more empty text space in the sidebar. Some rules still need further elobaration to fill their empty slots & we'd always appreciate your help and suggestions! ______ New Tools for Community Moderators - This community is now a month old! And that comes with new updates to help us moderate & navigate easier. **We now have a new AutoMod deployed,** though its interaction with members will be kept to a minimum. It mainly does three things: notifying, logging and transcripting. It does not censor any words and doesn't intervene with our users in any way. The bot works by transcripting and linking **all** of the content to a dedicated matrix chatroom(used as a log). This allows moderators to just take a look at the log to make sure everything is okay, rather than scrolling through posts one by one. It also redirects all reports to a seperate chatroom, which is normally used by our moderators to communicate and work together. Moderators can also make the bot send transcripts of comment chains on command, so they can discuss what to do about it together. _note: much thanks to our hardworking moderator [@[email protected]](https://lemmy.world/u/Rooki) for the bot!_ _________ Let us know! How do you like everything here? - Let's improve our list of rules together, and please let us know any concerns you may have regarding the bot & our approach to moderating. We really want this community to be one truly owned by its users, meaning **you**, and nothing in this c/ comes before that. _________ Matrix Chat Room - To find & join our chat room for casual discussion and support, log into a matrix client and put `#nostupidquestions:matrix.org` on the search bar. If you've never used Matrix before, we suggest you try using fluffychat.im first, as it has a more user-friendly interface.

We’re growing quite fast! Let’s discuss our future and what you’d like us to do. [META]
Hello everyone! First of all, I'd like to say thank you to every one of you for your support! Our community is about to be the first user-made one to reach 1K users/week on this instance. And our friends over at Ask Lemmy and Mildly Infuriating are following very closely, which is just as amazing! We're all working together to establish healthy communities and a friendly atmosphere here. And over at !NoStupidQuestions, we believe that all our members should have a say in what we do & how we do it. Do you see anything wrong with our rules? Would you like anything removed and/or added? Do you think Rule 6 is useful and good for the community? Do you want a discord server or a matrix chat room? Please feel free to ask any questions you might have & share your suggestions and ideas! With Love, !NoStupidQuestions Mod Team

Who are the next batch of “The Others”? (aka: Leary, Robert Anton Wilson, Douglas Rushkoff, Kevin Kelly, Stewart Brand, Ivan Stang, etc.)
A lot of these people are boomers. Rushkoff is much younger and I think Gen X. Where are the Gen Y/Z versions? Are there more Gen Xers to check out? Anyway, who are the next batch of these type of people? Are there websites/forums that follow them? (This is another in a series of my "High Weirdness" kind of questions. )

Can we prevent Lemmy from being so political?
lock
Just as the title suggest. Is there anyway we can prevent Lemmy from being such a giant sphere of political annoyance just like Reddit? No matter where you go on reddit before the API changes and even now, someone has to bring politics into it. Even in post or subreddits where it's not needed. So once again, is there anyway we can stop that from happening and just allow the communities in Lemmy to be genuine?
fedilink

Is there a crypto tipping bot on Lemmy?
Back in the day, before r implemented rewards, people would just tip each other for useful/insightful/whatever comments in cryptos like Doge or Reddcoin, even BTC before it became too expensive to tip with. I know we can use Mastodon bots here, but I have no idea what's available. Someone could also make a new coin specifically for Lemmy. Maybe Beancoin. 😁 🫘🫛

Rule 7: Further Explained [META] [Open to Discussion]
_This post is a part of the series NSQ Posting Guidelines, and aims to further explain & clarify the implications of this rule, and how it takes effect. It is not definite, and may be improved by any moderator upon any time of need._ Rule 7 is one of those rules that we take very seriously, and is the only way a human member may be removed without any warning. Before diving further, let's recall what the rule exactly says, as listed in our sidebar: _____________ :::spoiler Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members. (click to extend) **If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.** Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight. _____________ ::: _____________ This is how it is listed in our sidebar, and we'd like to think it succesfully presents our main approach. To further clarify each section of it and avoid confusion, let's take a closer look together. _____ The First Paragraph - >If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed. Now, what does "vocally" exactly mean here? Anything you publicly expressed in this community counts as vocally expressing it. This may be via creating a post, commenting, using your username/display name, or your avatar to communicate your views on various things. How do we determine what counts as _harassment_ and _discrimination_? If a participant attempts to vocally persecute, call names at, disrespect opinions of, patronise, or knowingly offend another participant, then it will be considered to be harassment. Likewise, if a participant vocally attempts to harass, isolate, deny essential rights to, bully, or deny the existence of another participant based on their personal(or inherited) qualities, then it will be considered to be discrimination. ____ The Second Paragraph - >Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight. Even though this paragraph is fairly self-explanatory, there are some clarifications to be made to prevent confusion. By "movement" here, we mean a group of people who share the same beliefs, worldviews and aims. By "provably vocal" here, we mean that a moderator must have proof of behavior that a specific member has broken Rule 7, and must be able to present it to other moderators upon request, and if our members wish, to the community. ____ _Set to be improved upon being tested._ Thanks for reading! Do you have any questions, concerns or suggestions in mind regarding this rule? Please feel free to let us know.

How to find communities in fediverse without getting spammed with offensive porn?
How is a fediverse user supposed to find communities? I can’t find a way to search across the fediverse, which pretty much kills the concept IMO. I was browsing All via Lemmy.world - Mlem - iOS and my feed is half anime porn, with some pictures depicting underage and others not blurred as NSFW. Am I going about the fediverse all wrong? How do y’all deal with this? Right now the fediverse seems like a glitchy, overcomplicated 4chan.

    No such thing. Ask away!

!nostupidquestions is a community space dedicated to being helpful and answering each others’ questions on various topics.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

    Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All posts titles must include a question.

All posts must be legitimate questions, and all post titles must include a question. Questions that are joke or trolling questions, memes, song lyrics as title, etc. are not allowed here. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.

Rule 2- Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material.

Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

    That’s it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts and joke questions.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it’s in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

For further explanation, clarification and feedback about this rule, you may follow this link.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

Unless included in our Whitelist for Bots, your bot will not be allowed to participate in this community. To have your bot whitelisted, please contact the moderators for a short review.
