Yarr, I had two Kobo Klara HDs which died on me on the space of a year. During that time I also may have used libgen. Is it possible that was the cause of the failure? Cheers,

Edit: The consensus is that it is very not likely the case. I wanted to check if it was a skill issue so I could learn from it. Seems not to be the case. Stay safe either way.

It’s really unlikely that an EPUB would be able to damage your devices.
This is more likely to be a hardware issue.

There are viruses in pdfs, but epub doesn’t have an executive layer. So that’s highly unlikely. And even if you had read any infected pdfs, I’m not aware of any virus that’s able to wreck hardware.

Could probably mess with the firmware, but nothing a factory reset shouldn’t fix.

I had the same issue twice on the same device model. It could well be (somewhat systematic) hardware issues. I also thought that it would be unlikely but wanted to check if I was being a shoddy pirate so I could learn to do better. Thanks.

An epub is just an archive containing text files, css files, and images, there nothing in there that can damage hardware. It’s possible you just ran into a bad batch of kobo’s
