What you’re complaining about is the same image being rehosted multiple times…

That’s not necessarily reposting, and probably make up a minority or reposts

I’m not positive, but I think OP is possibly extremely poorly communicating their position.

I think @[email protected] means:

“If a creator of original content posts their content online, subsequent posters shouldn’t capture/crop/alter that work then upload it elsewhere robbing the original content creator of attribution or the monetary gains they might received from hosting it on their original site. Instead, what subsequent posters should do is link to the original content at the original URL leaving the creator in full control of the hosting and perhaps any revenue they would receive from their work”

I’m not taking a position either way on this with my post merely translating what I think OP is actually trying to say. OP, please correct me if I’m wrong.

Hey, lemme ask you something. If somebody uploads something, and you upload, like, the exact same file somewhere else, without linking to the original designated artists url, what do you call that?

Rehosting, which is what I just said…

I don’t know if repeating it will get us to a different result tho

Wrong!

It’s theft. You are stealing from artists. You take their work without consent and use it for your own benefit.

It’s theft. You are stealing from artists.

No, duplication is not theft. Reproducing is not stealing. Not in the dictionary sense. Not in the legal sense. Not in any sense at all.

It might be copyright infringement, inappropriate, and/or rude, depending on the particulars and the jurisdiction. But your claim that it is theft demonstrates that you either have no idea what you’re talking about, or you are deliberately misleading people.

Please stop.

With views like that you probably support AI too.

Or I probably smell bad. Or I am probably a monster. Or I probably do whatever else you can imagine that might sway community opinion against me for contradicting you.

Once again, you are wrong. In both senses of the word.

I suggest learning what words mean before you go round using them in public, especially in accusations. It might help you to avoid embarrassing yourself. And, if arguing with people is what makes you happy, consider learning to avoid informal fallacies while you’re at it.

I think they know this, and were aiming to exploit that initialism by associating its negative connotations with the totally unrelated thing that they don’t like.

I wonder if that was intentional since OP hates copy pasting enough to equate with…something else that’s very distasteful online.

You lost me at ‘Fuck’. As a potential new member, how could I be willing to engage in a community putting forward rudeness?

I would suggest you may want to consider to calmly explain the issue at hand (my Lemmy feed is tightly curated and I do not think I noticed much of what you mention), without insulting anyone and without using doubtful dirty tricks to grab people’s attention, maybe sharing some real world examples?

I mean… I get what you’re getting at with literally copied content, but… come on, this framing of the issue is strictly ridiculous in the most literal sense…

Rules

The rules for behavior are a straight carry over of Mastodon.World’s rules. You can click the link but we’ve reposted them here in brief, as a guideline. We will continue to use the Mastodon.World rules as the master list. Over all, be nice to each other and remember this isn’t a community built around debate. For the rules about formatting your posts, scroll down to number 2.

1. Follow the rules of Mastodon.world, which can be found here.

A. Provide an inclusive and supportive environment. This means if it isn’t rulebreaking and we can’t be supportive to them then we probably shouldn’t engage.

B. No illegal content.

C. Use content warnings where appropriate. This means mark your submissions NSFW if need be.

D. No uncivil behavior. This includes, but is not limited to: Name Calling; Bullying; Trolling; Disruptive Commenting; or Personal Criticisms.

E. No Harrassment. As an example in relation to Transgender people this includes, deadnaming, misgendering, and promotion of conversion therapy. Similarly Misogyny, Misandry, and Racism are also banned here.

2. Include a community or instance title and description in your post title. - A following example of this would be New Communities - A place to post new communities or instances all over Lemmy for discovery and promotion.

3. Follow the formatting. - The formatting as included below is important for people getting universal links across Lemmy as easily as possible.

Formatting

Please include this following format in your post:

[link text](/c/[email protected])

This provides a link that should work across instances, but in some cases it won’t

You should also include either:

[email protected]

or instance.com/c/community

FAQ:

Q: Why do I get a 404?

A: At least one user in an instance needs to search for a community before it gets fetched. Searching for the community will bring it into the instance and it will fetch a few of the most recent posts without comments. If a user is subscribed to a community, then all of the future posts and interactions are now in-sync.

Q: When I try to create a post, the circle just spins forever. Why is that?

A: This is a current known issue with large communities. Sometimes it does get posted, but just continues spinning, but sometimes it doesn’t get posted and continues spinning. If it doesn’t actually get posted, the best thing to do is try later. However, only some people seem to be having this problem at the moment.
