Alt accounts that are also me:
[email protected] exists, but no one has posted yet.
@[email protected] @[email protected] Should we try and grow it?
You could try growing [email protected].
I found a few, none active, but some which could be consolidated or revived.
Great opportunity to promote a small topic-specific instance:
[email protected] (for serious posts)
[email protected] (for memes and casual chat)
@[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected]
I’m all for moving off LW. Would it be worth coordinating with each other to lock the LW community and redirect users to [email protected]?
In what way will this community be distinct from [email protected]?
Did the fedditde boardgames community move to [email protected]?
Edit: Doesn’t look like it. Is there a general board games community?
Tagging @[email protected] and @[email protected] for their thoughts. Can we mutually link to each other’s communities in the sidebar?
Are you unclear on the difference between the two formats, or do you think the differences are insufficient to warrant separate communities?
The original r/dontdeadopeninside had clearly defined distinctions between formats. I thought it would be nice to have both on Lemmy :)
For a “don’t dead, open inside”, the text reads correctly top to bottom, but visual cues (like colouration, horizontal proximity, or vertical separation) lead you to try to read it left to right.
For a “no safety, smoking first”, the text reads correctly left to right, but visual cues (like colouration or horizontal separation) lead you to try to read it top to bottom.
What is your definition of a “manual” hobby?
Would [email protected] count?
Thanks for these threads! I think I shared these before, but I guess I’ll share them again.
Rather than creating more new communities centralized on lemmy world, why not try and revive the existing [email protected] and [email protected]?
these are dead, and their moderators have not posted anything anywhere in nearly a year or more
I don’t think that’s necessarily a reason not to use them. Even if the mods are gone, some subscribers will still be there. It’s easier to revive existing communities than to start over from scratch. I’ve also found that instance admins are usually fairly open to replacing inactive moderators with active ones. You could try contacting admins like @[email protected] and @[email protected] and see if you can work something out.
I think creating new versions of existing dormant communities on different instances only serves to further fragment the userbase. Just my two cents :)
Some meme communities:
Which thread would meme communities like [email protected] or [email protected] fit in? Are they entertainment, or more casual?
Yeah, there’s an issue with how communities are federated. If the host instance goes down, there’s nothing which reflects when viewing the community from a remote instance. Local users can continue posting, blissfully unaware that their posts aren’t being federated.
If you can still see your local lemmy.world version of [email protected], you might want to make one final post there directing any lemmy.world users to the new [email protected].
True, but at least there is a level of resilience in having multiple servers. It’s much easier for users to switch to another instance of the same platform than it is to switch to a different platform entirely. A move from feddit.de to feddit.org is smoother than, say, from Reddit to Lemmy.
Welcome to Lemmy!
The best formatting for links is [email protected]
I just dropped a few of my favorites on .ee.
Thanks! Nice to have someone else posting.
I see a post on .de from a couple of months ago floating a move to feddit.org
I saw that as well and considered it, but since a community already existed on lemm.ee, it seemed simpler to just use that one.
I wonder why they went down.
I believe it turned out to be a single-admin instance with a poor bus factor. The admin went AWOL, and the server eventually went down.
This is not that fun. (5 syllables)
FTFY.
