It’s interesting to hear your take as someone experienced, because on hobbyist forums like /r/selfhosted I used to hear the complaint above all the time. Maybe people aren’t doing things correctly. I’ve never messed with my own email server and have no dog in this fight, but I’ve definitely heard that complaint a ton.
Oh there’s also obviously the big 3dprinting only instance at [email protected] for 3d printing specific, but when I searched around for generic “maker” stuff I couldn’t find anything else.
Yeah, I was kind of shocked nothing like it existed. When I searched I think there was one mainly 3d printer specific maker community on a small instance, but I like a bit broader scope and lemmy.world seems more populated. Hope the content creators and reposters find this place!
Like many people, I am a refuge from Reddit as well. I had a nice multireddit set up on RIF Is Fun that I'd love to duplicate here. Think 3d printing and microcontrollers, woodworking, DIY, and physical creations of all kinds. I'd be thrilled to see knife-making posts right next to an automated pet feeder next to hand-crafted furniture.
