I waddled onto the beach and stole found a computer to use.

Note: I’m moderating a handful of communities in more of a caretaker role. If you want to take one on, send me a message and I’ll share more info :)

I missed that the new community is called !ask and not !asklemmy. Nice that it allows for Piefed/Mbin and any other platform that may come up :)

[email protected]

There is a pinned post with the team specific communities

While I usually advise to try and make larger communities instead of fragmenting, I think this is a fun subtle difference to split them up with lol

You could coordinate with the other mods to link to each other

It is worth making accounts on a few instances for things like cross instance moderation, testing, or seeing content that isn’t federated out

It might help to advertise this one more if it’s intended to be the new replacement. I’m happy to start posting on a new one

Also maybe a list of the movie/TV related communities and why people prefer each one

Thanks! Mod list has been updated

Feel free to recruit more moderators as needed, and we are happy to help if you would like

For sure! We’ve been keeping an eye on the modqueue. Thought that we’d a little bit before posting about a recruitment

I saw the other comment, @[email protected] did you want to take on the role again?

There’s also an open call for moderators it seems?

Forgot to say thanks yesterday, it looks good!

That makes sense to me about XKCD :) There’s also [email protected] for some of the other ones

A more general thought/suggestion:

Have a general support community that people can post in, and pin a post from it on the instance so people know where to post with requests and ideas. You could also include a link to the communities page or some other list of all communities that are available. It could help with discoverability

Also feel free to cross post to [email protected]

Very cool! I agree about avoiding most of the sub feeds.

If you don’t mind, could you add some Canadian news providers?

Not news, but if you think it might be nice, webcomics:

You may need an RSS feed detector for some of these. I don’t see a button on the site for a few, but I added them somehow a few months ago.

[email protected] for updates on rescue patients (otters, seals, and more) by the Vancouver based MMRC

The season started recently so there are lots of updates, I haven’t been able to post them all

Always fun when you’re the first one to pull a community for your instance :)

Looks cool!

[[email protected]](https://lemmy.ca/c/marinemammalrescue) For updates on the patients and activities of MMR, as well as Marine Mammal related content in general. It's the season for a lot of rescues right now, so hopefully there is a good bit of content. I'm planning to eventually see if the organization wants to take over the community officially > The Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mammal Rescue Society (VAMMR) is a global leader in marine mammal rescue, research, and rehabilitation. [They] respond to over 300 marine mammal emergencies each year and operate Canada’s only dedicated marine mammal hospital facility.

Looks cool, I like the lists of games in the sidebar

Feel free to promote on [email protected] as well

Subscribed :)

Feel free to promote on [email protected] as well!

Welcome! Consider sharing on [email protected]

Also these are a universal links and they makes it easier for people to subscribe from other instances

  • [email protected] (simplest, but some apps don’t support it)
  • link (more complicated and requires someone to be on Lemmy when viewing the link)

Otherwise people can use something like the instance assistant browser extension

Cool!

Alternate link because some apps don’t support those links yet: LINK

Also considering promoting the community on [email protected]

Ah ok, I think they haven’t federated over for me. I’ll keep an eye out for more :)

Sounds fun!

If you make a sample post it might help, I’m a bit unsure what it should look like

Ah sorry that was for OP, it’s a post on how to link to communities correctly

You want this instead, you need the @ tag at the end else it won’t work for people in other instances

PhotoRestoration

Which you do like this:

[PhotoRestoration](/c/[email protected])

This is the universal link: [email protected]

but it doesn’t work on some clients, so I like to include the above as well

Alternate link for clients that don’t support that one:

Link

[email protected] [/c/sockpuppetsociety](/c/[email protected]) Message or reply if you want to be a mod The community was started after this post: https://lemmy.ca/comment/5057563 > When Reddit was first becoming popular, were it's communities and content basically just clones of other websites like Digg? Someone mentioned how Reddit used to sockpuppet to fake engagement, and Lemmy DOES need some new and original communities, so here You can make posts about sockpuppets reenacting real life events using any format you want! For example: - You can doodle on a napkin - You can use MS Paint - You can use REAL paints - You can use generative AI - You can use real sock puppets - You can pose an old sock in a weird way

Great to hear! I had them generated, but I was really happy with how this one came out :)

I’m hoping to eventually have some Lemmy artists swap the banners/icons once there’s a need for it

Join us at the front gate to welcome new users into Lemmy, and to the Fediverse as a whole! Links: - [email protected] - [/c/newtolemmy](/c/[email protected]) --- I'm hoping this community will encourage new people to do things like the following: > - share what you're looking for, or what you want to do. We'll help you find it > - Ask questions! The Fediverse is new to most people. If you're unsure about something, others are unsure as well. > - Just smile and wave, maybe someone will wave back 👋 --- I searched around for a bit and didn't see a community for this purpose, so I made this one. If you have suggestions, have resources for the new users, or want to help moderate, let me know!

I didn't see a moderated community for this yet, so I thought I'd make one. Pretty self-explanatory, but I can clarify details if needed! Links: - [email protected] - [/c/misleadingthumbnails](/c/[email protected])

Try [email protected]

Or this link

Lemmy web UI seems to break the links if you click the autocomplete, i think that’s what happened above

Creators of ‘Loading Artist’ and ‘Extra Ordinary’ comics have made communities on Lemmy!

Obviously don't harass them about it, but it would be nice to have more creators posting directly on these platforms.

It would be better if you messaged an admin about it, they might not see the post here

Also this isn’t the right comm for it, thus the downvotes
