Do you think it’s fair to say that one size does not fit all, so a giant list of self hosted options for people to choose from, is itself awesome?
The benefit of self hosting boils down to being able to make your own choices. Having a full list of options to choose from and make your own decision fits this community better (for better or worse) than someone else curating that thing for you.
Roon is expensive, but if you are a serious music fan, it’s 100% worth it.
I describe it to others as like talking to a super knowledgeable music store employee. It knows so much about each track, each musician, each band… cross-referencing them all, so you can go down a rabbit hole of hyperlinks learning about the music. It seamlessly mixes playlists across streaming and locally stored music. It does a decent job of streaming around the house to Apple, android, and audiophile devices. They just added an app that enables remote listening to your locally stored music.
I prefer to encourage active reading, by forcing them to move the mouse along as they read.
Thank you for the write up! Very helpful.
The use case I was wondering about is batch printing from a cloud solution. The print batch files could be encrypted, but I work with multiple solutions and I’m not confident that all of them encrypt those files. If it’s possible to crack old batches, that could expose sensitive information.
Haha! I lost at least an hour this morning. And plan on losing more later…
