If you don’t mind using Xbox Media Player you can enable dlna in jellyfin. It’s how I typically stream to my smart tv

The player I use for it is symfonium and it can do instant mixes. Genre tagged based tho, so it can be a little wonky but it gets the job done for the most part

Currently using symfonium, does everything I need at least. Can’t speak for plex since it been years but it has most of the things you need, offline playback, playlist downloading and syncing, casting, supports transcoding etc. Plus it works with plex already so you can try it out (it’s free for a week then paid iirc but it’s well worth imho)

Too little to late imo. I long switched to jellyfin and can use all the features that plexamp offered for free in various apps of my choosing

I can only base things off of my knowledge and from what I understand you can remove activitypub support just as (relatively) easily as you add it.

I also wonder if it’s in part how much exposure to the internet zoomers have. As well as what kind of internet. I was (for better or worse) terminally online growing but I had a Mac, and never had a smartphone till later. All my experience of the internet was my old Mac and later windows laptop. I also got into emulating and modding consoles by my early teens so that probably changes a lot as well.

Working aged zoomer here, it’s amazing how much my generation doesn’t know about computers in some aspects and how much they know in others. It seems I was born in a sweet spot when things still difficult but not completely dumbed down.

My statement was more referring to the idea that defederating based on facts are not a definite rule. Ideally facts are used, but sometimes it won’t. Speculation is pretty fair considering prior facts in this scenario.

I’d argue defederating can be based on whatever the hell the admins of the instance wants. That’s the freedom of the fediverse, instances are free to choose what they do and do not want. And you the user are free to choose the instance that aligns with your wants.

I’ve told various people over the years how easy it is to move away from tracking and how valuable their data is. They don’t care. Which makes me thing it’s something else at least in part

I often wonder if this is some sort of lack of self worth thing. Like, people don’t see their data as important because they don’t see themselves as important in the grand scheme of things? Do they thing one person isn’t gonna change anything?

I get algorithms and shit are designed to be addicted and keep you coming back, but is there a deeper part to this?

While a entire community can’t convince itself to leave, the beauty of the fediverse is if you as a user want to leave it’s very easy to switch instances and get access to most of the same info you want.

Bandcamp is an excellent option, I often try to get releases from their when possible.

Spotify probably is the only algorithm I use that just gives me stuff I would enjoy, other services try to push bs I don’t want. While I use soulseek and buy from Bandcamp when possible I still use Spotify for discovery.
