I think that’s the sad part. They got into genuine flame wars with people. The stuff they’d reply was 100% dead serious and sad. Nothing fun or hilarious in an ironic way. Just angry and sad.

Someone misconfigured something. Perhaps if they knew how a computer works this wouldn’t have happened.

It’s related but it differs on the form. Concern trolling is derailing online discussions and debates by simulating concern over a seemingly valid counterpoint, making all participants waste time and effort arguing a previously settled matter, or pretending to just be playing devil’s advocate. Acting as if, although you support the cause or discussion at hand, you somehow still have some valid concerns to oppose.

Yes, there’s no good choice. But scolding Google as evil without acknowledging Apple is disingenuous. They both suck as corporations. My friends and I communicate exclusively via homing pigeons though. It’s rather slow but really fun to drive all the pigeons around. I only consume the latest ink made meme reproductions made by my best mate Eustace. The thing is, at least with an Android I actually own the phone and can change it to be more privacy concerned if I wanted to. With Apple you’re scorned by snobs for disagreeing with design choices and made to feel inferior for even suggesting installing an app that goes against their sensibilities (aka haven’t given Apple money). I can install whatever I want, whenever I want on an Android. Hell, I could scrap everything and use an entirely homebrewed ROM if so I wished. Although that’s a result of its Linux heritage and despite Google’s preferences.

Birds don’t feel like pets when they are held in big fancy cages. But you know, different strokes…

You can bridge Matrix to almost anything. I’ve been looking on how to do it myself. Apparently it’s relatively seamless.

Won’t use Google.

But for some reason would use Apple.

Shaking my head

FOMO keeps the current users locked in the cage as well. So it’s a retention strategy too.

No one can know everything or do everything. It’s impossible. Those people pay experts. They aren’t doing everything on their own. The secret to life is to share the loads. There are studies into it and a lot of those people who grind for 18 hours a day are phoning it. No human can be productive more than 4 hours a day. The rest is a lot of meetings and shooting the shit for networking. There’s a reason the number 1 predictor of startup success is how much money the founders have to burn before the company is profitable or bankrupt. That money is to pay for those with management, business and law degrees. To pay for the engineers and technicians. The people who are experts on what the founders are not and together get the complex job done and a product out the door. Grind or daily hours of time invested working is like halfway down the list.

Stop comparing your blooper reel to everyone else’s highlights. Everyone has doubts, struggles, issues, problems, falters, stumbles, falls, insecurities, etc. It’s extremely rare that you get to see those. People only broadcasts the best about themselves. Hell, most people project a fake self image where they’re more successful and confident than they really are. Don’t compare yourself to that. Compare yourself against your past self and your own goals and self appointed purpose.

Chats are not forums. Discord is the same bullcrap than Reddit and Facebook, just newer on the enshittification cycle. People should just have forums and someone could make a containerized microservice that federates it to Activity Hub. Now it’s searchable, indexable, publicly available and archivable.
