Not sure what you’re seeing, but the account is not private, and she mentions her new Editor in Chief position on other social media accounts, AND she’s “verified” on Threads, so if this is someone doing a bit, they’re going to an awful lot of trouble for it.
Believe what you want, this is obvious trolling. I’m hardly shocked that someone would end up with a blue check mark after on-boarding millions of users in a day.
It doesn’t even remotely pass the sniff test. Come on guys, use some common sense here.
Holy shit, this needs to be WAY more widely spread. It’s crazy that they’re just outing themselves this early.
Edit: Just want to point out that this is in fact real. Legitimately did not believe it and had to go see for myself.
Edit Edit: In the interest of not spreading misinformation for anyone who reads this and doesn’t look below: It’s a real post, but she doesn’t actually work for Meta.
Back when I used mastodon there were community emojis that were the checkmark and you could put it in your name. It was made to make fun of Twitter. Maybe it’s the same here?
It is a real post but there’s no indication she actually works for Meta. She’s a former Buzzfeed reporter. I think the account is intended as a parody, based on the other posts.
It’s definitely more believable than the alternative, I can’t believe they’d let an employee post this, but letting it stay there this long is not doing them any favors at all.
Saw this first on Mastodon, came here to get more perspective. At this point, I’m pretty sure Threads:@katienotopoulos is a parody account, and that former Buzzfead writer Katie Notopoulos is not the “Editor in Chief” of Threads.
You are not logged in. However you can subscribe from another Fediverse account, for example Lemmy or Mastodon. To do this, paste the following into the search field of your instance: [email protected]
Nazism is not a fucking lifestyle, KATIE
Jfc Im a free speech conservative. You never let real nazis in. Fucking hell facebook. is she torpedoing it?
Yeah that’s a wild thing to say but I’m pretty sure that’s not a real account. Seems they went private too

Yeah I think it’s trolling too. That said, some links are showing the account as private, others show it public with that editor in chief note. Weird
I’m not sure common sense is really a great metric for these kinds of things anymore, tbh - Poes Law and all.
They are a troll, one of their other posts is literally goatse.
Jesus Christ you dumb-dumbs, she’s not actually a Meta employee of any kind. She’s a tech writer. It’s a bit.
Welp, it looks like threads is following in musk’s footsteps
Katie Notopoulos is a former Buzzfeed writer who is known to thoroughly enjoy some light trolling. This is very much a joke.
As a joke, the term ‘Nazi Lifestyle’ is hilarious.

Post is real but she’s just trolling. No such thing as an “Editor in Chief of Threads”
Here’s her profile on Bluesky
If she’s trolling like this, why’s she allowed a checkmark? That kind of shit did NOT fly at twitter before the buyout.
Back when I used mastodon there were community emojis that were the checkmark and you could put it in your name. It was made to make fun of Twitter. Maybe it’s the same here?
Aha! She’s not Editor in Chief, she’s Zuckerberg himself!

Dezinformatsiya at its finest. Can’t believe folks are still falling for this stuff.
Doesn’t look like account holder is actually editor in chief.
Ya but she doesn’t work for meta. She’s trolling.
lol please do the smallest bit of research. dont be a boomer
This isn’t liberalism. This is good old fashioned stupidity.
Or a joke.
