I think you are discounting the power of branding. Names are important. If the “best” names are being squatted on by former reddit mods on a power trip, and the community fractures and makes alt communities, things get confusing fast for new users and it hampers adoption of the platform. Stop power mods before they are even born.

The fact that all VOTES and comments are public is a big deal when it comes to keeping out bad actors, spammers, trolls, and power tripping mods. There was so much mod abuse on reddit and much of it will not be possible here, because we can easily see when people are using alts to game the system.

Beehaw seems to have already developed a plan to put everyone they do not like into predefined boxes so they can call those boxes bad and exclude them. Today they were discussing banning “pedantic” users - people asking questions in bad faith, in their opinion. This kind of subjective moderation is what is wrong with reddit.
